The "Hive Mind" refers to the non-verbal link that each individual bee has with the hive as a whole. The hive's ability to communicate vast amounts of information to thousands of members, and still operate as a singular organism is a fascinating and awe inspiring feat of biology. In much the same way, The Hive Mind Apiary strives to offer the best possible quality products to everyone without severing the connection to the individual. 

Our Story

The Hive Mind Apiary began with a single hive as a hobby, but beekeeping quickly took root and became a passion. One hive became many, and so, the hive mind's influence on me grew more and more present. Observing the dynamic nature of a colony was a life changing experience. I came to realize that the whole was so much more than a sum of its parts. Until I began beekeeping, I had only known bees as individuals. It quickly became evident that this was not the case. The colony is the true organism rather than the collection of individuals. The individual is merely the tendril of the whole, reaching out into the world it inhabits. The "hive mind" is a term which refers to the colony's, and more importantly the Queen's, ability to orchestrate  thousands of individuals as a single mechanism. As far as the colony is concerned, self preservation refers to the entirety of the colony rather than the individual. Bees will often times during long, cold winters selflessly give their lives for the sake of the hive because their food stores will not support the current population. Their   behavior was inspiring to say the least. It became clear to me that The Hive Mind Apiary would be shaped with their altruistic archetype as a blueprint. Today, I manage a number of hives in several locations scattered throughout the Salt Lake valley in the beehive state of Utah.
